A self-taught amateur photographer, Thierry Plumey early on felt the
urge to search for unusual situations, and somewhat atypical characters.
The Man in the Street provides the candid photographer (involuntarily
most of the time) with scenes that are either banal or out of the
ordinary. Watching people is unquestionably revealing. Hence the
irresistible compulsion to capture those short-lived moments is
but 1/125 sec. away.
Never stage anything. Look out, observe and … press the shutter
release button.
Paradoxiacally enough, finding the subject is often more exhilarating
than looking at the final result. Nevertheless, you have to lock
yourself up in your darkroom to bring to light these serendipitous
encounters.
The following photographs have been taken on the streets of our
global village, as well as portraits and places without any faces.
